Wow!

I finally watched the trailer for the upcoming film, Spotlight ...

The film is directed by Thomas McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Josh Singer. It is about The Boston Globe's "Spotlight" team, the oldest continuously operating newspaper investigative unit in the United States, and their coverage of the Massachusetts Catholic sex abuse scandal, for which The Globe won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Brian d'Arcy James, Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, Liev Schreiber, and Billy Crudup.

Some background: How the Boston Globe exposed the abuse scandal that rocked the Catholic church ... [W]ithin two years of the first of the Globe's 800 articles on the scandal appearing in January 2002, Rezendes notes, Cardinal Law had resigned, 150 priests in Boston stood accused of sexual abuse, more than 500 victims had filed abuse claims, and church-goers' donations to the archdiocese had slumped by 50%.

The movie looks to be really good and similar to All The President's Men in its theme of investigative journalism. NCR has a post about it - Trailer debuts for 'Spotlight' film on Boston Globe sex abuse investigation. What;s hard to believe when you recall all that happened is that Cardinal Law has never even once been criticized by the Vatican for what he had done, certainly never punished, and instead was rewarded with a cushy job in Rome. Some had hoped that Pope Francis would remove him when Francis visited Law's church the day after he was elected, but the hope was false.

Here's the trailer ...
